Carthage is located in the Ripley Township, Rush County, Indiana. Situated along the Big Blue River, Carthage had a population of approximately 927 people in 2010 according to the United States Census Bureau. The town is about 40 miles west of Indianapolis. Named after Carthage, North Carolina, the town was platted in 1834. The town’s post office has been in operation since 1835.
