The Town of Laurel is located in Laurel Township, Franklin County, Indiana. As of 2010, the town has a population of approximately 512 residents according to the United States Census Bureau. In 1836, the town was platted by James Conwell, a Maryland native. The town was originally going to be named New Baltimore by Cromwell but instead was named Laurel after the Maryland city.
Laurel is fairly small, but there are still things to see and do in and around the town. One major attraction around Laurel is Haspin Acres, a 750 acre off-road and motocross park. The trails in the park are surrounded by woods and hills that feature beautiful views of western Indiana. Also located in Laurel is the gorgeous Woodland Retreat. The retreat offers individuals an escape to country elegance and 300 acres of woods and fields. The retreat features activities such as hiking, swimming, and fishing.
